A Message from Lindsay Gabriel

It is so exciting, that this is our first newsletter as part of The Redstart Learning Partnership Trust. Already the school is going from strength to strength. The children have settled beautifully and have been eager to work hard in class, they are already producing some brilliant pieces of homework. Despite the ongoing building work, New School Counsel members were elected after some convincing hustings and House Ambassadors have been chosen to represent the houses for the rest of the school.  Congratulations to all who were given such responsibility. The building work has been delayed by a week due to the academy conversion, but I am sure you will agree it has been well worth the wait and the transformation is already visible and we thank you and the children immensely for bearing with us whilst the work is being completed. We welcome Mrs Amy Hawkins to our Pre-school as Deputy Supervisor currently working along side Miss Kay Hilton. We would also like to welcome Miss Amy Cox who will be taking on the role of Supervisor after Half Term. There will be opportunities to meet with Miss Cox before her transition takes place and a letter will be sent home nearer the time.  Mr Mike Collins in addition has taken on the roll of caretaker at Winsham, who works across the trust. The children have all shown such enthusiasm for the new school ties and they do look very smart indeed.  Key Stage 2 have been practising hard to master the art of knot tying but it seems to be a struggle for the Key Stage 1 class, particularly after PE.  We are therefore offering a clip on version of the tie (for KS1 only) to help.  Please bring the original tie in a clean state to the office where this will be exchanged for you. It has been a pleasure to hear the wonderful stories of blackberry and apple picking that the children have been able to do on our own school field.  The children have been telling me wonderful tales of their first ‘Outdoor Education’ days.  I am so pleased that the children have been able to spend the beginning of the year with such opportunity. Thank you for all those parents who attended our Curriculum talk last week.  The home to at winsham school relationship is such an important one and we value the time you put into your children’s education.  We have started to use the text message service and email system to ensure communication is clear.  Please check your junk/spam mailbox just in case! School jumpers can be bought from Barrons in Chard and we thank Mr Barron for all his help in setting this up for us. We feel this will be much easier for parents to purchase school jumpers and pleased we will be supporting a local business. We shall be inviting you all to an opening very soon! Well done to the winners of the Winsham Horticultural Society competition.  The children entered before the Summer Holidays with some beautiful handwriting.  Well done to, Nieve, Isla, Skye, Toby, Liam and Ethan. Finally, what a lot of readers you are – £330.00 was spent at the book fair.  Some of this money is given back to the school to spend on books.  So thank you all for continuing to support our wonderful school. Yours sincerely  Ms Lindsay Gabriel, Headteacher  Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
