We offer high quality education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

We run daily sessions from 9am to 12pm or 9am-1pm (including lunch) and 12pm or 1pm to 3.00pm.

Winsham Pre-School is registered to accept children in receipt of 2 year old funding and also the Early Years Entitlement (EYE). The EYE becomes available the term following your child’s third birthday. This entitles each child to 15 ‘Universal’ hours per week and for those eligible an ‘Additional’ 15 hours per week (30 in total).

The maximum number of hours per funding year that you can claim is 570 hours. If your child attends more than 15 hours per week or 570 hours per year, you will need to pay fees for the extra hours.

Our EYFS Vision

Within both of our Reception and Pre-School EYFS provisions, we acknowledge the entitlement of all our children to learn within a nurturing, safe, inspiring and creative learning environment that inspires curiosity and risk taking as well as providing vital opportunities to develop positive relationships with all those around them. Our aim is to provide every child with a high-quality early childhood experience through offering an engaging and stimulating curriculum which enables children to have a life-long love of learning and an appreciation of the world around them.

Our aim is to enable children to fulfil their potential via the creation of a play-based curriculum which has its roots firmly placed within the ethos of the Curiosity Approach.  This approach is embedded in our pre-school and we strive to ensure this approach is also reflected in the learning experiences and continuous provision of our Reception children, who work alongside our Y1 and 2 children within Lily class. Working alongside our Year 1 children, our Reception age children settle quickly and benefit from the company of older children who model excellent learning behaviours in our wonderful setting.

Across our settings, we appreciate the importance of child-led learning and we carefully enrich the environment in order to facilitate the children making their own choices and empowering them through providing opportunities for exploring, investigating and working things out for themselves, which leads to enhanced confidence, critical thinking, and the development of problem-solving skills. By developing this curiosity and sense of adventure, and through the children’s acquisition of these important skills, they are helped in all areas of their lives as they grow into adulthood.

Within our provision, we have a range of open ended authentic and natural materials for the children to explore and play with. Children learn through play with these everyday items in order to develop their own natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and create. This encourages the children to create their own toys to play with whilst also learning about the world around them. Children are supported and encouraged to use their imagination in deciding what each item is for and how to use it, rather than being given a toy with a fixed identity, which shapes its purpose and how a child will play it. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum is the framework that we use that sets out children’s learning and development in the Foundation Stage.  It gives children a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the foundation for good future progress throughout school and life. Children within the settings learn skills, acquire new knowledge and demonstrate their understanding through seven areas of learning and development which are:

Communication and language, Physical development, Personal, social and emotional development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive arts and design.

These seven areas are used to plan learning and activities, which are informed by the individual children’s needs, patterns of play and interests.  Each child is unique and our staff work hard to identify each child’s strengths, adapting plans to support the child’s developing needs. We promote cultural values and support positive relationships and respectful interactions within a stable, safe, healthy and culturally relevant environment – this being crucial to a child’s development.
