Ethos, Vision and Values

A community rooted in God and reaching up high.

“They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams.”

Isaiah 44:4

Exploring, aspiring, growing, and celebrating together.

At Winsham Primary School we aim to inspire our children to branch out and explore – to learn with joy, curiosity and enthusiasm, and to strive for excellence in all they do.

We help to grow children’s wisdom, knowledge and skills – inspiring a love of learning and developing independence and resourcefulness.

We promote the value of community and living well together, both at a local level as well as with our global neighbours. We encourage the children to recognise the interconnectedness of all life and the importance of belonging and stewardship.

We aim to instil in children a sense of hope and aspiration for a healthy and happy future. We help them to develop the resilience to cope when things and people go wrong; and the ability to repent, forgive and reconcile, showing compassion, grace and generosity.

“A tree has its roots in the soil yet reaches to the sky. It tells us that in order to aspire we need to be grounded and that no matter how high we go, it is from our roots that we draw sustenance”

Wangari Maathai

We aim for children to develop virtues of good character such as wisdom, courage and compassion so that they become socially aware and responsible global citizens who aspire to serve others as courageous advocates, becoming inspiring change-makers and making a positive difference in the world.

“A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible.”

Welsh proverb

In ‘living out’ our vision through our curriculum, through collective worship and throughout all of our interactions, the children of Winsham will develop the academic skills, intellectual habits and character in order to flourish as individuals who are equipped to live ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).

“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.”

Psalm 92:13

Vision and Values

Vision

Winsham Primary School is committed to excellence for all our pupils and employees. We have developed The Redstart Learning Partnership’s Framework for Excellence which is based on the following principles:

At Winsham Primary School, we seek to be a community where all are welcome and encouraged to take their place, regardless of our differences

  1. Excellence - educating for skills, knowledge and wisdom

  2. Collaborative service - educating for community and living well together

 3. Courage - educating for hope and aspiration

 4. Compassion - educating for dignity and respect

We explore our values through exciting, interactive and relevant Collective Worship sessions each week. We focus on one of our values each half-term, exploring a different thread each week and embedding the value in everyday school life. Teaching these values so explicitly allows us to mould a shared understanding of how we live well together.

We work tirelessly to develop a school which has at its core:

  • High Expectations -  we achieve this by employing outstanding individuals and educating our pupils to be outstanding

  • Powerful Learners and Knowledgeable Individuals  - we focus relentlessly on high quality learning for all pupils and employees

  • Contributing Citizens -  we believe tolerance, respect, integrity, responsibility, courage and perseverance are all essential attributes for our pupils

  • Confident Leaders – we empower every adult to lead and develop leadership skills within our students

  • Continually Improving – we seek out innovation and success and learn from the best
